My lens line-up going into 2026
Anyone who knows me well will know that I am a bit of a geek when it comes to photography gear. I'm always reading up on new lenses and camera bodies, comparing the pros and cons of each. I tend not to compromise when it comes to the gear I want. I shoot with Nikon bodies and lenses, and I use several lenses in the process of photographing a wedding day. Some are used throughout the day, while others are used for select portions of the day.
Zoom Lenses
Nikon z 70-200 2.8s
The Nikon z 70-200 2.8s is a workhorse telephoto zoom. Sharp wide open from corner to corner and at every focal length. Its a must have in the bag at every wedding. Perfect for candid shots from a distance during the reception, for flexibility during the ceremony in slightly larger spaces, for the variation needed during speeches when you need to get wider shots and close-up reaction shots. Its also perfect for group photos, when swapping between different size groups it allows to get different perspectives. The one weakness is it's weight.
Nikon z 24-70 2.8s
This mid-range zoom is another must have lens in the bag. It's wide end is perfect for landscapes, buildings, environmental portraits or larger groups, while its long end is suitable for classic portraits or details. This flexibility means that if I could only bring one lens to a wedding day this would have to be it.
